It combines the technology and advantages of an on-grid and off-grid solar system.

It can send power to the grid and also store power to a battery storage system.

An on-grid solar system shuts the connection with the grid in case of a power outage for the safety of linesmen working on nearby electric lines. But a hybrid system shuts down the grid connectivity and also provides power to the load from the battery storage. Its a more efficient and economical system with a diesel generator backup.

The technology is however similar to an off-grid system, but that it can export the excess solar power to the grid after charging the batteries and meeting the power load.

A bidirectional net meter is used to measure the net power that has been exported or imported from the grid.
